Caboose Seat

The Northern Pacific Railway Caboose was opened up for a time yesterday.  The telegrapher demonstrated how these seats, located in the cupola, were reversible with a quick flip of the back so that no matter which way the caboose was going, the crew was always facing “forward.”

While it only took two hours to place the tracks and the caboose into its current position (thanks to skilled crane operators), thousands of volunteer hours have gone into the restoration of this unique piece of railway history — Ritzville, WA.
