Killdeer are funny little birds with a funny bird name.  They generally dart, and are highly skilled in misdirection, typically leading you away from their nests.  Nests, which by the way, are almost impossible to find and are situated on the ground, in the gravel.  I’ll try and dig up an old photo I have of one at some point.

If you do come across the birds, tread lightly — they’re probably trying to grow some little killdeers nearby.
